Hard Disk Catastrophe! Posted By [AMD]-SimGuy at 10:28 AM EST |

What a way to start a week! The AMD Tower of Power is currently offline because of a catastrophic hard disk failure. All 8 (yes ALL 8) of my Maxtor DiamondMax D540XL 5400 RPM 160 GB Hard Disks failed within 12 hours of eachother. Now, I figured that this couldn't have been a coincidence, so I pulled out the voltmeter and started to check the power supplies for any sign of power fluctuation or deviation. They tested out fine (and before you assume anything, I do have a UPS and surge protector protecting this PC).
After returning all 8 of the drives to the place of purchase, they ran a complete diagnostic on all 8 of them and concluded that the drive heads in each hard disk had mysteriously fallen into the drive platters (while spinning at 5400 RPM) and gouged all of the platters.
I promptly returned all 8 drives back to the manufacturer and received a rather nice in-store credit. Since I had some extra cash with me, I decided it was time to move to a new hard disk company that is known as one of the best brands of hard disks available today: Western Digital.
After spending my in-store credit and a little extra out of my pocket, I managed to come home with 8 (yes, 8) brand new Western Digital Special Edition 7200 RPM 160 GB HDD's. These drives are lean, mean data storing machines that feature an astonishing 8 MB of cache to allow insanely high transfer rates inside the disk.
I'm in the process of installing the devices into the AMD Tower of Power. I'll be sure to post whenever I complete the installation!

System Overhaul Today Posted By [AMD]-SimGuy at 4:16 PM EST |

Today I hit the motherload. Found an individual at a local computer store that was willing to sell me some of his hardware at discounted price if I'd let him go for a test drive in my vehicle. Sure! Why the hell not!
After getting back from the test drive, I purchased the following items:
- AMD Athlon XP 2600+ "Thoroughbred B" Socket A CPU
- Asus A7V8X Motherboard, 6 PCI, 1 AGP, 6 USB, ATX
- 1024 MB DDR SDRAM (PC3200)
The best part is that I saved nearly $500 for letting him drive my vehicle for 10 minutes. Sweet deal eh?
Just wanted to let everyone know that I do update this website as often as I am able to, whether that's every few days or every few weeks. Check back in a few weeks for an exciting project I'm working on!

I'd like to wish everyone here in Canada and Canadians abroad a Happy Canada Day! On this day 135 years ago, the nation of Canada was formed and has been only getting better and better with age! Celebrate and enjoy this wonderful nation!!
I'll be out for the next few days, as I am heading up to Ottawa, Ontario (our nation's capital) to attend the party sponsered by the Government of Canada! We know how to throw parties, especially when the Government is involved!!

According to AMD officials, the new Athlon XP 2200+ processor is finally available. Running at 1800 MHz and offering performance levels similar (and in most cases better) than the Intel Pentium IV 2.2 GHz, this new processor should increase any user's system performance. CBWNET.com has the new 2200+ available for pre-order at a cost of about $210.00 USD and will ship as soon as they arrive. Don't delay, act today!!

Lately, things have been quite busy. With the school year finishing up and the multitude of business that I am doing, I hardly have time to work on AMD Place. I haven't give up completely yet though. I'll try to get some more information up on the other machines I have here setup at home and try to make regular updates. Have a good one!!
